Avoiding the “Great Filter”

The rise in global temperatures, if left uncontrolled, will continue to wreak havoc on our planet and its inhabitants. Attempts to mitigate the effects of global warming have often been inconsistent and divided across multiple strategies, limiting the overall effectiveness of these efforts. A recent article led by three high school students—Jenny, Kerry, and Mary—champions for the need for coordinated action to avoid the most disastrous consequences of climate change. Their crucial study evaluated the main strategic options for mitigating and adapting to climate change, including industrial/energy, political, economic, agricultural, atmospheric, geological, coastal, and social measures, and finally provided an analysis of the best combination of seven solutions. This combination allows solutions can be implemented simultaneously, working cohesively to limit and adapt to the harmful effects of climate change.
