Explore the fascinating world of microscopy and discover the beauty and complexity of the natural world around us. Join us and learn how to examine and analyze plant specimens using microscopes. From the basics of microscopy to plant identification and collection, our program offers hands-on experiences that will encourage curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity.

Project 1: Big Wonders in A Small World

This program builds on the basics of microscopy to teach students plant identification and collection. But that's not all! You'll also showcase your artistic skills by creating your own botanical atlas, featuring scientific images and artistic interpretations of each plant specimen. Plus, you'll learn how to write creative descriptions for your artwork, combining science and art to create a more complete understanding of the natural world.

Coaches: Dr. Zhu, Assistant Professor, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, and her college students

Teaching Assistant: Lucy Shi, the author of the 2022 book "Art Under the Microscope" and the Founding President of Small World Global, which is an organization committed to UN Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.

Eligibility: G7 to G10 students who have independent study ability

Meeting time: Wednesday 6/14, 6/21, 6/28, 7/5, 7/19 6:30-7:30pm (PT)
